Citizens Caring For Children: We can Help!

As most of you know… we are foster parents. In fact, exactly one week ago our adoption became final for our sweet Princess. Obviously, foster children have a special place in my heart. I have struggled with ways that I can help, because I clearly cannot take care of hundreds of children in my home. ;) After I posted about the Foster Care Awareness Walk I received many comments and e-mails wanting to know more ways that you could help. I learned that many of you too share my desire to help these children, but you have no idea how. I obviously cannot expect you all to become foster parents so I have now found a way that couponers can make a difference: Citizens Caring for Children.

Citizens Caring for Children is an organization that provides clothing, shoes, duffel bags, books, school supplies, mentors and other necessities to more than 3,600 foster children each year. The children served have been removed from their homes because of abuse and/or neglect with nothing but the clothing on their backs.

They have recently started a program called “Its in the bag” which is a program where they give a child a duffel bag full of necessities like body wash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo & conditioner, comb & brush, towel, blanket, journal and more to children when they are removed from their home.  You have no idea how important this duffel bag is to a child who now has nothing. Most of those items in the bags are toiletry items…. Most of which we as couponers get for FREE.

I want to encourage you to consider donating your extra toiletries to the “Its in the Bag” program. I am always talking about paying it forward, and this is the perfect way to do that. You can take your donations directly to

Citizens Caring for Children
730 W. Wilshire, Ste. 111 & 112
Oklahoma City, OK 73116

I will also have a donation box at each of my coupon classes, so if you live close to a coupon class, you can just drop off your donations and I will deliver them for you. It is that simple!

Right now, there are 8,046 children in foster care in Oklahoma (As reported by the Department of Human Resources). I hope that Coupon Closet and all the readers can really make a difference with our abundance of toiletries.

Stay tuned for my next post about Citizens Caring for Children, where I show you what I am now adding in my couponing to help.

Carrie hope you got my email about July dates for a program-July 16th 2-4pm or July30 2-4pm. Just wanted to say how much I like the idea of bringing goods for the Foster Children’s duffle bags. I would like to promote this for your program when we get a date established. It is important to make the communities aware of the needs of children in foster care. Congratulations on your new little princess, may God bless you in all your endeavors.

I too am a foster parent. I am always trying to think of ways to tell people how to support foster children! I have 2 girls one of which we are about to finalize adoptions and the other is therapeutic an we just got her! When our first girl came she too had only the clothes on her back! And it took a while to get her “stuff” she needed! I really appreciate the fact that you are promoting foster care support! Thank you so much!

Fantastic! Thank you for this information. I have always just given my stuff to the Mission downtown, but this definitely sounds like more of an immediate need.

    Thank you!
