Hi Carrie. I had a great trip to Homeland today, but neglected to take a picture. My total before coupons was 64.98 and my oop was 26.19. I saved 63%

I purchased
2 Homepride wheat bread at 1.29/ea. no coupon, but reasonable
1 Ritz Pretzel Crisps 2.99. Used $1 off = .99
1 Oscar Meyer Sub Lunchable $2.50. Used $1 off = .50
1 Oscar Meyer Lunch. w/fruit $2.50. Used $1 off = .50
3 Tony’s Pizzas. $1ea. used .50(dnd, but the manager did anyway…) = 3/$1
1 Cheezit Baby Swiss $3.99. Used $1 off = 1.99
1 Fig Newton 3.49. Used $1 off = 1.49
5 Smart Ones (Chk/Moz on clearance) 1.81/ea. Used $1 off = 1.41/ea.
1 lb Hiland Co/Jack Chs. $2.99. Used .55 off(real california) = 1.89
2 Chex Mix 2.29/ea. Used $1 off/2 = 1.30/ea
1 Borden Chs Slices $1.99. Used $1 off = .29
3 Hiland Yogurt cups $3/1 used .25/3 = 3/.50
1 Heinz Ketchup 40oz. 2.49 used .50 off = 1.49 ( I opted for the 40oz over the 20 oz deal which is on sale for 2.09. It was cheaper per ounce that way)
1 Crystal Lt. 8qt $1.99. Used $1 off = FREE

It was scary at the register. The cashier who mentioned she’d been there alllll day, neglected to scan my HL card. So when she rang up my coupons and told me total only went from $64 to $56, I choked! I asked her if my coupons had doubled correctly. She told me it was automatic and she couldn’t do anything about it. I politely asked if she would go through the coupons with me to verify. She was nice and said there’d be no problem. She noticed a mngr walking by and asked him to explain the coupon policy to me, which I let them know I had a copy in my binder. ;) But the manager found the issue and finished up my transaction. I did mention I was grateful for the professionalism and let them know I appreciate the coupon policy. He was very nice. I choked again when he gave me my new total of only $26 and some change.

There were 2 snack items I paid more than I’d have cared too, but given my savings over all, I really did well.

And just so you know, my coworkers encouraged me to follow your blog. I’ve been doing so since the last week in April. The month of April our grocery/household spending was around $520, only couponing that last week. For the month of May, I’ve spent only $170!! That’s a 53% change!!

I’m a single mom with two teenagers in the house. This has been time consuming but well worth it! Thank you for everything!!

PS: I also follow SimpleSavingSavvy and the Consumerqueen. They are great resources. Simple has a monthly buying guide to help with monitoring the cyclical nature of the sales and Consumerqueen lists the Homeland items from the Sunday’s paper on Mondays for those last minute deals before their ad changes. She also keeps an eye out at Crest. Anyhoo…thanks again!

Carrie,
I am not sure really where to communicate this but while I was shopping at my Homeland the manager told me they are really having problems with manufactures honoring printable coupons. I have a black and white printer so the little yellow security dots do not show up and apparently they are sending a lot of these types back and not paying them. The reason is that some people are photo copying them and it makes it hard to tell between black and white prints and copies. I just would like you to share that people really need to use integrity when couponing. Manufacturers do not have to give us these deals and when we take advantage of it, we are ruining it for everyone. We need to really be honest about this because he said there is a good chance Homeland may no longer be taking prints in the future. Thank you for all you do!

I went to WalMart and spent $3.70 for these items:
All You Holiday Entertaining Magazine
Woman’s World magazine
Equate PM pain reliever
7 Tide single load packages (I used the $2.00 off Tide detergent coupons)

Wow! I loved it. Thanks to CouponCloset.net for all of the great tips!

I went to Homeland on Sunday and got 5 boxes of Post Cereal for just .75 per box! Here’s how: I had a print-out from the last time I shopped that said if I purchased 5 or more boxes, between certain dates, I would get $4 off my next purchase. So, I bought one box of Fruity Pebbles w/ marshmallows, two boxes of regular fruity pebbles, and two boxes of GrapeNuts. I used a $1.50/1 pebbles w/ marshmallows, one $1/2 kid cereals and $1/2 any cereal. Before coupons, I would have owed $13.25. After coupons, I paid oop $7.75, then got a coupon printout for $4 off of my next purchase, making each box of cereal just .75! Sweeeeeet!!!!!
